Rycote Edirol RO5/Tascam DR05 Mini Windjammer
Rycote Edirol RO5/Tascam DR05 Mini Windjammer | Helps tame wind in recordings
A light breeze can add distracting noise when you’re recording outside. The Rycote Edirol RO5/Tascam DR05 Mini Windjammer is a microphone accessory intended to help reduce that problem for owners of the Edirol RO5 or Tascam DR05. It’s a focused option for outdoor voice recordings, interviews or ambient sound where wind reaching the microphone can get in the way of the audio you want to capture. The “Mini” in its name makes clear that this is a small windjammer for these named recorders, rather than a general-purpose microphone accessory. Its role is straightforward: use it when moving air is a concern during recording. The supplier lists it in black, a discreet colour alongside recording equipment. If your work is mainly indoors in still air, you may have little reason to add a windjammer; it earns its place when you take the recorder into breezy conditions.
Specialist Note
Wind noise can spoil an otherwise clear spoken recording, and that’s the problem this little accessory is meant to address. The name points to two specific recorders, the Edirol RO5 and Tascam DR05, so it’s a targeted match rather than a one-size-fits-all wind cover. I’d consider it for recording an outdoor interview or gathering ambient sound on a breezy day; using a windjammer gives the microphone some protection from moving air. Its Mini designation suits a compact recorder setup, while the black finish keeps the accessory visually understated. It has a narrow job, so it makes most sense if you actually record outdoors; it won’t improve a recording made in calm conditions just by being there.
