Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW0-AA | Helps tame wind noise in recordings

Cleaner outdoor audio is the result you want from a windjammer: less wind rumble competing with speech or the sounds around you. The Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW0-AA is a microphone accessory for that job. It’s relevant to location recordists, interviewers and anyone capturing sound outdoors, where even a light breeze can distract from what the microphone is meant to pick up. A windjammer works as a barrier between moving air and the microphone, helping reduce wind noise in the recording. That makes this a focused addition to an audio setup rather than a general-purpose accessory. Consider it for spoken-word recording outside, or for capturing ambient sound when wind is present. The product name identifies it as a Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer, but the supplied information doesn’t establish which microphones it fits, so I wouldn’t assume compatibility from the name alone.

Specialist Note

The Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW0-AA is for one clear task: reducing wind noise around a microphone. As a microphone accessory, it makes sense for outdoor interviews and location audio where a gust can spoil an otherwise useful take. I’d consider it when wind is the problem you’re trying to manage, rather than as a fix for traffic, handling noise or a poor recording position. “Windjammer” tells you its intended role; “Nano-Shield” is part of the product name, not enough on its own to tell me how it’s built or what it fits. So I’d match it to your microphone before buying, and keep expectations focused on wind.
