Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW5-DC
Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW5-DC | Help reduce wind noise
The defining choice here is a windjammer design: it’s made to help limit wind reaching a microphone during recording. The Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW5-DC is a microphone accessory for people who need to capture sound where moving air could interfere with a take. That makes it relevant for outdoor interviews, location sound and other recordings where wind is part of the surroundings, not the subject. Its name identifies both the Nano-Shield range and the NW5-DC model, so it’s worth matching the exact version to the microphone setup you use before building it into a recording plan. There’s no need to expect this accessory to remove every trace of wind; its role is to help manage that particular source of interference. If wind is a concern in your recording, this is the Rycote windjammer model to consider.
Specialist Note
In a recording setup, a windjammer is there to let you focus on the sound rather than every gust around the microphone. The Nano-Shield name and NW5-DC designation identify this particular Rycote version; I’d use those exact details when matching it to your mic setup, rather than assuming all windjammers are interchangeable. It suits recording outdoors, especially interviews, and location recordings where wind could distract from the sound you want. Set up the wind protection before the take, then listen back for how much wind is still present. It’s a focused accessory, not a fix for every noisy environment, so pairing it with sensible mic placement still matters.
