Rycote Neoprene-Coated Mini Lavalier Foam
Rycote Neoprene-Coated Mini Lavalier Foam | A compact cover for lavalier microphones
The neoprene-coated finish sets this mini lavalier foam apart from a plain foam cover. It’s an accessory for people using a small lavalier microphone who want a soft covering around the mic for spoken audio, such as interviews or dialogue. Foam is commonly used to soften the effect of light air movement on a microphone, making this a practical option for everyday recording rather than a piece of complicated audio gear. Its small format is the point: it’s intended for mini lavalier use, so it keeps the setup focused on a compact microphone. The black colour is understated against dark clothing and equipment. If you’re choosing a replacement or an additional cover, the key thing is to match the mini format to the lavalier you use; the product name doesn’t establish a fit for every microphone.
The covering is simple by design. Place the foam over the mini lavalier microphone before recording dialogue, and keep it in place while the mic is worn or positioned for the recording. That gives the microphone a soft outer layer without adding another piece of audio equipment to the setup. It’s aimed at lavalier users who value a small, plain-looking accessory, especially when a bulky cover would be out of place. The neoprene coating is part of this specific design, while the foam remains the defining feature. There are no stated dimensions here, so the mini description is the useful guide to its intended size class, not a promise of universal fit.
Specialist Note
1 word in the name is the useful clue: “Mini” points you toward a compact lavalier, not a large microphone cover. I’d consider it for interview dialogue or a presenter wearing a small lav mic; put the foam over the microphone before recording to give it a soft outer covering. The neoprene coating and black finish make this a more particular option than an uncoated foam, and the dark colour keeps the accessory visually restrained. It suits someone who already knows they’re working with a mini lavalier. The honest limit is that “mini” doesn’t tell you the exact fit, so don’t assume it suits every lav mic.
