Rycote Neumann TLM 103 Miniwindjammer
Rycote Neumann TLM 103 Miniwindjammer | Wind protection for your TLM 103
Rycote Neumann TLM 103 Miniwindjammer is a windscreen made for the Neumann TLM 103, for recording situations where moving air reaches the microphone. It suits TLM 103 owners recording spoken voice, interviews or other close-miked material who want an accessory intended for their specific microphone. Its job is to help limit the effect of wind on the mic during a take, so a draft is less likely to distract from the sound you’re recording. The product name makes the intended microphone clear, which is useful when you’re choosing an accessory for an existing TLM 103 setup. Its black colour keeps the look understated. This is a focused wind-protection accessory; for a location with strong, persistent wind, choosing a more sheltered recording position still matters.
When it makes sense
Consider the Miniwindjammer when your TLM 103 is exposed to moving air during a recording. For a spoken-word session, fit the wind protection before you start and make a short test recording. That gives you a chance to check the result in your actual position, rather than relying on the accessory alone to solve every wind-related problem.
Specialist Note
A spoken-word take is underway near an open window, and a light draft crosses the microphone: that’s where this Rycote Miniwindjammer earns its place. I’d consider it for a TLM 103 used for narration or an interview, especially when you can’t fully control the air around the recording position. The name is reassuringly specific: this version is for the Neumann TLM 103, rather than an unspecified microphone. Its black finish is a quiet, unobtrusive choice for a recording setup. I’d still make a test recording in the exact spot you plan to use; a windscreen can help with moving air, but it won’t make a persistently windy location calm.
