Rycote Olympus LS-05/LS-10/LS-11/LS-12/LS-14 Mini Windjammer
Rycote Olympus LS-05/LS-10/LS-11/LS-12/LS-14 Mini Windjammer | Tame wind noise outdoors
A light breeze can add a distracting rush of noise to spoken audio, especially when you’re recording outside. The Rycote Mini Windjammer is a small wind cover for portable recording, made to help reduce that interference around the microphone. It’s intended for people who record interviews, spoken notes or outdoor ambience and want clearer results when moving air is part of the situation. Fit it over the recorder’s microphone before you start, then listen back to check that voices remain clear and the wind is less prominent. It’s particularly useful for location recording where you can’t control the weather, and its mini format suits a compact recorder setup. This is a focused accessory rather than a way to fix every sound problem: it addresses wind at the microphone, not distant traffic, handling noise or a noisy location. For calmer outdoor speech and ambience, though, it’s a practical bit of kit to keep close.
Specialist Note
The compact, black finish keeps this wind cover visually low-key on a recorder, which is handy when you want your equipment to stay unobtrusive during an interview. It’s made for the Olympus LS-05, LS-10, LS-11, LS-12 and LS-14, so it suits owners of those specific recorders who often work outdoors. For a street interview, fit the Mini Windjammer before recording and keep the microphone aimed toward the speaker; for outdoor ambience, use it to soften the effect of passing gusts while capturing the surrounding sound. It won’t make a windy location silent, but it tackles the wind right where it matters: at the microphone.
