Rycote Stereo Cyclone MS Kit 16
Rycote Stereo Cyclone MS Kit 16 | For Mid-Side stereo recording
For capturing a stereo sound field with a Mid-Side setup, the Rycote Stereo Cyclone MS Kit 16 is a specialist microphone accessory to consider. Its name identifies it as a Rycote Cyclone kit for stereo MS use, rather than a general-purpose camera accessory. That makes it relevant to sound recordists planning a Mid-Side recording and looking for a kit specified for that approach. Mid-Side is useful when you want to work with a stereo image that can be adjusted during decoding, rather than committing to one fixed width at the recording stage. The practical result depends on the recording setup and how you handle the signal afterwards. The “16” is part of the product name; I wouldn’t treat it as a measurement without further information. If you’re choosing equipment around a particular microphone or rig, make sure the kit suits that setup before building your recording plan around it.
Specialist Note
The words “Stereo MS” are the key detail here: they point to a kit intended for Mid-Side stereo work, where the stereo width can be shaped in decoding. I’d consider it for a sound recordist who has already chosen an MS approach and wants an accessory specifically named for that application. For ambience, the method lets you make decisions about width after recording; for a focused sound source, it gives you a stereo approach without changing the basic aim of the recording. The product name also includes “16”, but I wouldn’t use that number to judge fit or dimensions. My practical advice is to plan around the MS format, and not assume compatibility from the name alone.
