SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB | Take 500GB of external storage with you

You’re packing up after a shoot and want your files in one place, rather than spread across cards and a computer. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB is an external solid-state drive with 500GB of storage, made to be carried with you. It suits photographers and other creators who want a portable place to keep files, and anyone looking for an external SSD at this capacity. Its clearest appeal is straightforward: it combines an external SSD with a 500GB capacity in a portable product. That makes it worth considering when you want storage you can take along, or an additional place for files alongside the storage you already use. The title doesn’t give us a transfer speed or connection type, so we won’t make claims about how quickly it moves files or what it plugs into. In day-to-day use, the right fit comes down to the amount you need to store and how you plan to connect an external drive to your setup.

Planning your storage

Think about the files you want to keep on the drive before choosing it. A photo library, a set of project files or a selection of work to carry with you all call for different amounts of space. The stated capacity here is 500GB, so you can compare that figure with your own storage needs rather than guessing from a general description.

An external SSD can also give you a separate place to organise files outside your computer’s internal storage. If that’s what you’re after, consider which folders you want to keep there and how you’ll manage copies of important work. This product’s name tells you its type, capacity and portable design; those are the details we can confidently use to help you judge whether it belongs in your kit.
