Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33X S35 AF Anamorphic Lens (Z Mount Blue Flare)
Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33X S35 AF Anamorphic Lens (Z Mount Blue Flare) | Widescreen character with autofocus
The 1.33X anamorphic squeeze gives this 40mm lens a widescreen look, while autofocus keeps it practical for moving scenes. It’s made for filmmakers using Nikon Z cameras with APS-C sensors, especially those who want an anamorphic image without giving up autofocus. The blue-flare version brings a distinct blue streak to bright light sources, giving you a recognisable visual effect in-camera rather than relying entirely on post-production. At T1.8, the lens also gives you room to work in lower light and control background blur. Its 40mm focal length offers a natural perspective for dialogue, close details and composed portraits. On a Nikon DX body, the framing is roughly equivalent to a 60mm lens on a full-frame camera. The 1.33X squeeze needs to be corrected in your editing workflow, so this lens suits filmmakers comfortable with an anamorphic post-production step. It’s a focused tool for video and filmmaking, rather than a general-purpose stills lens.
Specialist Note
First-time anamorphic users can underestimate how much the squeeze affects the finished frame; this 1.33X design gives you a widescreen result without the more extreme stretch of higher-squeeze lenses. I’d point it toward narrative scenes, interviews or music videos where the blue flare from a bright practical light can become part of the composition. T1.8 is useful when you want to keep exposure up in dim interiors, and it also helps separate a subject from the background. Autofocus makes it easier to keep a moving subject sharp, though for carefully paced manual focus pulls, take time to check your workflow before filming. It’s best suited to video makers who want a specific anamorphic look and are happy to desqueeze their footage in post.
