Thypoch Simera 21mm f/1.4 Lens - Leica M-Mount - Silver
Thypoch Simera 21mm f/1.4 Lens - Leica M-Mount - Silver | A bright wide view for architecture and night skies
The defining optical choice is a 21mm wide-angle prime: it takes in a broad scene, so foreground and surroundings can share the frame. That view suits photographers who want to show the setting around a subject, rather than isolate it. The Simera is an interchangeable lens with a Leica M mount, and its silver finish gives it a distinctive look on a compatible setup. A wide view rewards careful framing: move close to a foreground detail and it can take up a strong place in the composition, while distant buildings may appear small. Take a moment to check the edges of the frame, especially in architecture, where lines and corners matter. This lens is worth considering when you want a broad perspective for landscape, building or night-sky photography.
Good subjects for this lens
- Landscape: include foreground detail alongside the wider scene.
- Architecture: frame a building with more of its surroundings.
- Astro: make the night sky a broad part of the composition.
Working with a wide view
With a broad perspective, where you stand can change the balance of the frame. For architecture, step back when you want more of the building and its setting together; for landscapes, look for a foreground element that gives the scene depth. Check the corners before you settle on a composition, since a small shift in position can change what the edges include.
Specialist Note
Blue hour settles over a row of old-town façades, and there’s room in the frame for both the buildings and the street. For night-sky work, f/1.4 gives you a lot of light to work with; I’d start there, then adjust exposure to suit the scene. Manual focus means you set focus yourself, so take your time with a distant architectural detail or a bright star rather than rushing the shot. This suits Leica M photographers who enjoy working deliberately and want a wide view for architecture or astro. The trade-off is that manual focusing asks for attention, particularly in low light.
