Tiffen 44CGCY3H 4x4 CLR/Cyan 3 Grad HE Filter
Tiffen 44CGCY3H 4x4 CLR/Cyan 3 Grad HE Filter | Shape skies with a cyan transition
The Tiffen 44CGCY3H is a 4x4 CLR/Cyan 3 Grad HE filter for adding a graduated cyan colour to an image. It suits filmmakers and camera operators who want to shape colour in-camera, rather than applying the effect across the whole frame afterwards. The clear-to-cyan gradation is especially useful when you want to give part of a composition a cooler cast while leaving another area clearer: think a pale sky above a city roofline, or a band of colour in a carefully composed scene. Its 3 Grad designation gives you a defined level of colour graduation to work with, so you can plan where the transition falls in the frame. This is a specialist creative filter, not a general-purpose UV filter or a neutral correction filter. Choose it when cyan is an intentional part of the image you’re building.
Specialist Note
A pale evening sky sits above the dark line of a harbour, and the frame needs a little more colour separation. That’s the kind of composition where I’d consider this Tiffen. Its CLR/Cyan gradation lets you place the cyan area over the sky while keeping the lower part of the image clearer; take care to line the transition up with the horizon or another natural boundary. The 4x4 format is a practical fit for a square-filter workflow, and the 3 Grad marking gives you a specific graduation to plan around. I’d recommend it to operators who want a deliberate colour effect in a landscape or designed shot. Keep in mind that the cyan is selective by design, so it won’t give the whole frame an even colour shift.
