Tiffen 44UC5 4x4 Ultra Contrast 5 Filter
Tiffen 44UC5 4x4 Ultra Contrast 5 Filter | A square-format filter for deliberate contrast work
Without a filter in the optical path, you’re relying on other choices in your workflow to shape the image. The Tiffen 44UC5 is a 4x4 Ultra Contrast 5 filter for photographers and filmmakers who want this specific filter in a square-format setup. It’s best suited to planned work where you’ve chosen the Ultra Contrast 5 designation and want to use that same option across a sequence of shots. The name gives you two practical identifiers: the 4x4 format and the Ultra Contrast 5 type. That makes it easier to select the intended filter when organising a kit or repeating a setup. If you’re building a square-filter workflow, this is a focused option rather than a general-purpose filter. The product information gives no measured effect or strength details, so I wouldn’t promise a particular tonal change from the name alone.
Specialist Note
“Is the Tiffen 44UC5 the 4x4 Ultra Contrast 5 filter?” Yes—that’s exactly how the product is identified. The 4x4 format matters if your work is organised around square filters: it helps you pick the right format when preparing a setup, though you’ll want to match it to your own filter arrangement. The “5” is part of the filter’s specific designation, so use the full 44UC5 name when selecting or reordering this version rather than relying on “Ultra Contrast” alone. I’d consider it for planned sequences where you want to keep the same named filter choice from shot to shot. It’s a specialist filter, so it makes most sense when that particular designation is what your work calls for.
