Tiffen 5x5POL 5x5 Linear Polarizer
Tiffen 5x5POL 5x5 Linear Polarizer | Reduce reflections and deepen colour
Reflections on water, glass and glossy leaves can be toned down, while colour in a sky or foliage can appear richer. The Tiffen 5x5POL is a 5x5 linear polarizing filter for photographers and camera crews working with this filter format. Rotate it to change the strength of the polarizing effect and judge the result as you work; the change is visible through the viewfinder or on a monitor. That makes it useful when reflected light is obscuring detail you want to keep, or when you want more separation between a blue sky and clouds. It’s a hands-on filter rather than a fixed look: the effect depends on the scene and the angle of the light, so you can fine-tune it for the shot. If your setup uses 5x5 filters, this gives you direct control over reflections without relying on editing to recreate the effect.
Specialist Note
New polarizer users often expect one turn to remove every reflection; the effect actually changes with the filter’s angle and the direction of the light. With this 5x5 linear polarizer, rotate it while watching the reflective surface, then stop where the detail comes back without making the image look unnaturally flat. The 5x5 format suits a setup already built around that filter size, while the linear polarization gives you control over reflected light rather than a fixed reduction. I’d use it to see through surface glare on water or to deepen a blue sky, adjusting by eye for each framing. One limit to remember: it won’t remove reflections from metal.
