Tilta MB-T17-BSF Bottom Flag For Mirage Pro Matte Box
Tilta MB-T17-BSF Bottom Flag For Mirage Pro Matte Box | Shade the lens from below
Blocking stray light coming up from below the lens can help keep unwanted flare out of a shot. The Tilta MB-T17-BSF Bottom Flag is a tripod accessory made for the Mirage Pro Matte Box, giving you a dedicated flag for that job. It suits camera operators who use the Mirage Pro Matte Box and want to manage light arriving from low angles, such as reflections from a bright floor or ground. A bottom flag is most useful when the light source is outside the frame but still reaching the lens; shading that area can help preserve the look you’re aiming for. This is a specific component rather than a complete matte box, so it makes sense as part of an existing Mirage Pro setup. If low-angle light is affecting your frame, this is the part to consider.
Where it helps
Think of a bright pavement, pale tabletop or reflective set floor sending light back towards the lens. A bottom flag gives you a way to shade against that direction while composing the shot. It’s a focused accessory for controlling light at the lower edge of the image, rather than a general-purpose camera support item.
Specialist Note
Its position along the bottom of the matte-box setup is the detail that matters: it gives you a way to shade the lens from light coming up from below. I’d consider it when a bright floor or a low reflection is causing unwanted flare, especially in a carefully controlled setup where you want to keep the frame clean. The MB-T17-BSF is specifically identified as a bottom flag for the Mirage Pro Matte Box, so it belongs with that system, not as a standalone matte box. Keep the full model code, including “17”, to hand when identifying this particular part. It’s a focused fix for one direction of stray light, not a substitute for the complete matte box.
