Urth 55mm Base Filter Kit Pro (UV CPL)
Urth 55mm Base Filter Kit Pro (UV CPL) | Manage reflections and filter UV light
A bright shop window or a sunlit lake can leave distracting reflections across a shot; that’s where the CPL designation on this Urth 55mm filter kit points to a practical use. The circular polarising filter can help reduce reflections on non-metallic surfaces, and rotating it lets you adjust the effect as you compose. The UV designation refers to ultraviolet filtering. At 55mm, it’s intended for a lens that takes 55mm filters, so check the marking on your lens before choosing it. This kit suits photographers who want a filter option for reflective scenes, as well as those looking for UV filtering. It’s most useful when reflections are part of the problem you’re trying to solve, rather than a detail to leave in the picture. The title identifies it as the Base Filter Kit Pro, with UV and CPL filtering.
Specialist Note
The CPL in this 55mm kit is the option for reducing reflections that changing your camera angle may not remove. For water or a window, turn the polarising filter while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen, and stop when the glare is reduced to your liking. It can also deepen a blue sky; the effect is strongest when you’re facing roughly 90 degrees from the sun. The 55mm size matters at the counter: match it to a lens marked 55mm for filters. The UV designation gives you a different filtering purpose. Polarisation depends on the light and your angle, so the result can vary from scene to scene.
