Urth 58mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 58mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ | Soft, mist-like highlights
Bright lights can take on a softer, mist-like look in your pictures, giving portraits and night scenes a more atmospheric feel. The Urth 58mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ is a creative filter for photographers who want that effect while shooting, rather than adding it later in editing. Its White Mist name points to a gentle diffusion style: it’s intended to soften the rendering of bright areas without turning the filter into the subject of the picture. Try it for portraits with light in the background, or for evening scenes where lamps and other highlights are part of the composition. The result depends on the scene and how much bright light is in frame, so it’s a look to use deliberately. If you prefer crisp, neutral rendering in every situation, this expressive effect may not be for you; if you enjoy a softer atmosphere, it gives you a simple way to explore one.
Specialist Note
The Urth 58mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ is made for giving bright highlights a soft, mist-like character. The 58mm size is the practical detail to match: it suits a lens with a 58mm filter thread, so check the marking on the lens before choosing it. I’d consider it for a portrait with a bright window or lights behind the subject, or for a night scene with lamps in view; composing with those highlights in the frame makes the effect part of the picture. The White Mist style is a creative look, not an invisible correction, so it pairs best with scenes where a little softness is welcome. If you want a strictly clean, unaltered rendering, this isn’t the filter I’d reach for.
