Westcott 7'/220cm White Diffusion Parabolic

Westcott 7'/220cm White Diffusion Parabolic | Broad, softened light for portrait setups

Hard light can make a portrait feel harsher than you intended. The Westcott 7'/220cm White Diffusion Parabolic is a diffuser for photographers who want to work with a softer-looking light source and have room for a large modifier in their setup. Its name gives you the key details: a parabolic shape, a white diffusion surface and a size of 7 feet / 220cm. That makes it worth considering when a smaller diffuser doesn’t give you the coverage you’re after. It suits portrait work particularly well, but the useful question is how much space you have to position a diffuser and the light around your subject. A larger diffuser takes planning; in return, it gives you a broad surface to work with. If you’re choosing between sizes, think about your shooting space first. This is a substantial piece of light-shaping kit, not a compact option to buy without considering where you’ll use it.

Choosing a diffuser

A diffuser changes the quality of light reaching your subject, so it’s a tool for shaping the look of a setup rather than adding another light source. The white surface and parabolic form are the defining details here. If you already know you want a diffuser of this size, the model is easy to identify; if you’re still deciding, consider the scale of your subject and the space available to position the modifier. Those practical details matter more than a long list of claims. There’s no need to overcomplicate the choice: match the size and shape to the kind of setup you want to build, and to the room in which you’ll be working.
