7Artisans 50mm T2.1 Canon EOS-R-Mount is a manual-focus cinema prime with a maximum aperture of T2.1. It’s made for filmmakers and video creators using a Canon RF camera who want to set focus themselves and work with a fixed 50mm view. The T2.1 aperture gives you room to work in available light, while the standard-prime focal length suits carefully composed shots such as interviews, dialogue and product footage. Manual focusing also makes it easier to plan a deliberate focus change as part of a shot, rather than relying on autofocus. This is an interchangeable lens, so it can be part of a video setup built around your Canon RF camera. On a Canon RF-S body, its angle of view is equivalent to 80mm on full frame, which can be handy for tighter framing. As a prime, it won’t zoom: you’ll need to adjust the camera position to change your composition.

Specialist Note

Manual focus sets a measured pace: you choose the point of focus and can rehearse a pull before recording, rather than leaving that decision to the camera. For a dialogue scene, try T2.1 when you need to make the most of available light; it gives you more exposure latitude than stopping down. The 50mm focal length works well for a composed interview frame, so place the camera where the subject’s framing feels right and mark that position before a repeat take. On an RF-S body, remember that the view is tighter, equivalent to 80mm on full frame. The trade-off is simple: there’s no zoom for quick reframing, so allow time to reposition the camera.
