7Artisans 58mm True Colour CPL Filter
7Artisans 58mm True Colour CPL Filter | Control reflections in bright scenes
When a shop window catches the light or reflections hide what’s beneath the surface of a lake, a polarising filter can help make the scene easier to photograph. The 7Artisans 58mm True Colour CPL Filter is a circular polarising filter for that kind of situation. Its 58mm size refers to the lens filter thread it fits, so it’s important that your lens has a matching thread. A CPL can reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces, and turning it lets you adjust the effect while looking at the scene. It can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky, depending on your shooting direction and the light. That makes it useful for landscapes, water, and photographs through glass. The True Colour name is part of the product’s identity; the practical reason to use a CPL is the control it gives you over reflected light.
Working with reflected light
Look through the camera and turn the filter slowly to judge the change in reflections. The effect varies with the angle of the light, so a small adjustment can make a visible difference. For a landscape, check the sky as you rotate it; for a window or water surface, watch the reflected detail. This hands-on adjustment is the point of a CPL: you can choose how much of the reflection remains in the frame rather than relying only on a change of viewpoint.
Specialist Note
For reflections in glass, this 7Artisans CPL gives you an adjustable option when moving to a different viewpoint isn’t practical. I’d suggest it to someone who often photographs shop fronts, displays or water and wants to decide how much reflected light stays visible. The 58mm size is the detail to match to your lens: it needs a 58mm filter thread. As a circular polariser, it’s adjusted by turning it while you watch the scene, so take a moment to compare positions rather than setting it by guesswork. Its “True Colour” name may appeal if colour is a priority, but the effect of polarisation still depends on the light and your angle to the subject.
