Most ultra-wide lenses keep straight lines looking familiar; this fisheye gives scenes a distinctly curved, expansive perspective. The 7Artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 MkII is an interchangeable prime lens for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras, with manual focus and a broad view suited to landscape, architecture and night-sky photography. It’s for photographers who want that unmistakable fisheye look, or need to fit a sweeping scene into the frame without stepping back. In a landscape, foreground shapes can become dramatic anchors; in architecture, the bending lines can turn a familiar building into a more graphic composition. For stars, the wide view helps include a generous stretch of sky. This isn’t a neutral, straight-line ultra-wide: the fisheye rendering is part of the point, so it suits deliberate compositions better than scenes where every edge must look natural.

Specialist Note

At 124°, the view takes in a lot of the scene, so a small change in where you point the camera can reshape the composition. I’d use that deliberately for a low landscape: bring a close foreground feature into the frame and let the sky open out behind it. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is helpful for night skies; open it fully when gathering light is the priority, then focus manually with care on a bright star. This lens makes particular sense for Sony APS-C photographers who enjoy shaping a scene rather than keeping every line straight. The honest trade-off is that the fisheye look bends architecture, especially near the edges, so it’s not the lens I’d choose for a natural-looking building record.
