B+W 021 Yellow Filter 1.5X MRC F-PRO - 58mm
B+W 021 Yellow Filter 1.5X MRC F-PRO - 58mm | Shape black-and-white tones with yellow filtration
B+W 021 Yellow Filter 1.5X MRC F-PRO - 58mm is a yellow filter for photographers who want to shape tonal contrast in black-and-white images. It suits anyone working with monochrome film or digital conversion who wants more control over how skies and other blue-toned subjects render. Yellow filtration can darken blue skies in a black-and-white image, helping clouds read more clearly against them, and can give foliage and other colours a different tonal separation. That makes it particularly useful for outdoor scenes where a flat-looking sky needs definition, or when you want a more deliberate tonal interpretation straight from the camera. It’s a focused tool rather than a general-purpose accessory: the effect is most relevant when you’re making monochrome photographs, and it won’t add the same contrast shaping to a colour image. The 58mm size makes it suitable for a lens with a matching filter size.
Specialist Note
The tonal change happens as soon as the filter is in place, so you can judge the sky and clouds through the viewfinder rather than rely on editing later. I’d recommend it to monochrome photographers who want a little more separation in outdoor scenes: use it when blue sky is washing out cloud detail, or when you want blue elements to print darker. The 1.5X factor means allowing for a small exposure adjustment—about two-thirds of a stop—so keep that in mind when metering. Its 58mm size is the key fitting detail: it’s for a lens with a matching filter size. It’s a specialist effect, so it makes most sense when you’re deliberately working in black and white.
