B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm
B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm | Add a gentle glow to highlights
The defining feature of this B+W filter is its Black Mist effect: bright highlights take on a soft glow, while the overall image gets a more diffused look. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want a gentler, more atmospheric rendering for portraits, evening scenes or other images with bright points of light. The 1/4 strength gives you a defined mist effect to work with; it’s a creative look rather than a tool for adding crispness or detail. Use it when you want to soften the feel of a scene without relying on editing alone. The 62mm size refers to the filter diameter, so it’s intended for a lens with a 62mm filter thread. The MRC Nano V-PRO designation identifies this version of the filter.
Getting the most from the Black Mist effect
For a portrait, try placing a bright window or another light source in the frame or just outside it; the highlights can help reveal the mist effect. At night, street lamps and illuminated signs give you bright areas to work with against darker surroundings. The filter’s look depends on the scene, so it’s worth trying a few compositions and checking how much of the frame is occupied by bright light. That way, you can decide whether the softened rendering suits the image before making it part of your usual setup.
Specialist Note
¼ strength gives you a visible Black Mist character without making the effect the whole point of every frame. I’d suggest it to someone who wants portraits with softer-looking highlights, or evening images where lamps and signs can pick up a gentle glow. Try placing a light near the edge of a portrait, or include a street lamp in the background, and see how the scene responds. The 62mm size is the fit detail that matters: it’s for a lens with a 62mm filter thread. One honest consideration: this softening is a creative choice, so it won’t suit every subject or a look that depends on crisp, hard-edged contrast.
