B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm
B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm | Gentle glow for expressive images
Bright highlights take on a soft, hazy glow, giving portraits and scenes a more atmospheric feel. The B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO is a diffusion effect filter for photographers and filmmakers who want to shape that look in-camera. Its 1/8 strength gives a subtle treatment, so the image can feel less clinical without looking heavily veiled. It’s especially appealing for portraits, backlit subjects and night scenes where point lights add to the mood. Use it when you want bright areas to bloom softly, while keeping the overall frame recognisable and natural in character. The 62mm size identifies the filter diameter: it’s intended for a lens with a matching filter thread. Think of it as a creative choice for rendering light, rather than a filter whose main purpose is changing exposure.
Specialist Note
1/8 is a light-touch strength in practice; I’d try it first on a portrait with a bright light in the background, or on a night scene with illuminated signs, where the softened highlights can add atmosphere. The 62mm diameter is the practical detail to match when choosing a filter for your lens: look for a 62mm filter thread, rather than choosing by camera body. I’d suggest this to portrait makers and video creators who want a gentler, less clinical rendering. One thing to bear in mind is that bright sources become softer and more pronounced, so it won’t suit every scene. MRC Nano is the coating designation; keeping the glass clean helps keep the effect intentional.
