Caruba ES 65B For Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM | Help keep stray light off your lens

Without a hood, you rely on your hand or your position to keep off-frame light from reaching the lens. The Caruba ES 65B is a lens hood named for the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM, giving owners of that lens a dedicated accessory for managing stray light. It’s most relevant when you’re shooting with bright light coming from the side or just outside the frame, where unwanted light can reduce contrast or create flare. Fit the hood when the scene calls for it, then watch the image as you adjust your angle; a hood can help, but it can’t remove flare caused by every lighting position. This is a focused accessory rather than a change to how the lens works. If you use the specified Canon lens and want a straightforward way to shield it from off-axis light, the ES 65B is the match identified by its name. It keeps the setup specific to that lens, rather than asking you to improvise with your hand.

Specialist Note

Does the Caruba ES 65B belong on the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM? Yes—the product name specifies that lens. The 50mm focal length is a natural fit for portraits and everyday subjects; in side light, attach the hood and keep an eye on flare as you frame. The lens’s f/1.8 aperture gives you the option of working with a wide aperture in lower light, but the hood doesn’t change that setting or create background blur. I’d suggest this to someone who already owns that exact lens and wants a dedicated hood for bright, off-frame light. Its usefulness depends on where the light is coming from, so it won’t solve every flare situation.
