Caruba HB-31 Black

Caruba HB-31 Black: Reduce flare and protect your lens front

Cleaner-looking pictures with less flare start with keeping unwanted light from entering the lens. The Caruba HB-31 Black is a replacement lens hood for the Nikon AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED DX lens. It limits stray light reaching the lens, which helps reduce lens flare and colour cast in your images. That’s useful when bright light is near the edge of your frame, where flare or a colour shift can distract from the subject. The hood also provides a barrier in front of the lens, adding protection against knocks and bumps during handling. For owners of the compatible Nikon zoom, it’s a straightforward way to replace a missing or damaged hood and restore these benefits. Its purpose is specific: control unwanted light and shield the front of the lens, rather than add another control or change how the lens operates.

Why it is useful

• For the Nikon AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED DX: This hood is made as a replacement for that specific lens. It’s a useful match if the original hood is missing or needs replacing.
• Blocks unwanted light: A lens hood limits light entering the lens from outside the intended view. That matters when bright light falls toward the lens while you’re composing a picture.
• Reduces lens flare: The hood limits flare caused by stray light. That keeps distracting flare effects more controlled in scenes with bright light close to the frame.
• Helps limit colour cast: Unwanted light can affect the appearance of colour in an image. This hood limits that effect, helping keep colours from picking up an unwanted cast.
• Front-lens protection: The hood provides a layer of protection against knocks and bumps. It’s useful when handling the lens, where the front element could otherwise be exposed to accidental contact.
