Cokin P124 Gradual Tobacco T1 | Adds warmth with a soft transition

Your pictures can take on a warm tobacco tone across part of the frame, while the gradual fade keeps the change from looking like a hard-edged colour block. The Cokin P124 Gradual Tobacco T1 is a colour filter for photographers who want that effect in-camera, especially when a scene feels a little cool or flat and you want to give its upper or lower area more warmth. It suits landscape and travel photographers who like deliberate colour in their images, as well as anyone exploring graduated filters for creative compositions. The key is to place the transition where it makes sense in the picture: line it up with a natural boundary, such as the horizon, and keep the tinted area over the part you want to warm. The result is a controlled colour treatment, rather than an even tint across the entire frame.

Specialist Note

First-time users of a graduated colour filter can expect the whole picture to change; the gradual transition is what makes this one more selective. The tobacco colour brings a warm, earthy cast, so I’d use it when you want warmth in a chosen area without colouring every part of the composition equally. For a landscape, place the fade around the horizon and let the tobacco tone sit over the sky; for a graphic detail, align it with a clear edge in the scene. T1 is part of this filter’s designation, so I wouldn’t assume a specific strength from the name alone. Its warm tint is intentional, which makes it a poor fit when you need neutral colour.
