For tightly framed cinematic shots with a broad anamorphic feel, the DZOFILM Pavo 2X Anamorphic Prime is a manual-focus 100mm lens for video and filmmaking, with a maximum aperture of T2.1. Its 2X anamorphic design lets you shape a widescreen image, while the 100mm focal length favours a face, selected detail or carefully composed background over a broad view of a room. T2.1 gives you more room to work in lower light and to separate a subject from the background, with focus and exposure set deliberately. This lens suits cinematographers and production teams who want to plan shots and control focus themselves. It’s especially suited to portrait-led scenes and controlled setups where you can choose the camera position. This is the BLUE Coating version, with a Canon EF mount. It’s a specialist prime, rather than a general-purpose wide view.

Specialist Note

When a scene needs a tight, composed frame, a 100mm focal length gives you a clear way to keep attention on the subject. I’d use it for dialogue or a carefully planned insert, setting actor and camera marks so there’s room to work with the framing. Manual focus lets you time a focus pull to the action, while T2.1 is helpful when an interior is dimmer or you want the background less prominent. It suits filmmakers who like to rehearse their focus and camera moves. The trade-off is that 100mm needs working distance, so plan where the camera can sit before building the shot.
