For cinematic widescreen shots with deliberate, compressed framing, the DZOFILM Pavo 2X Anamorphic Prime 100mm T2.1 is a manual-focus lens for video and filmmaking. Its 2X anamorphic design records a squeezed image that’s intended to be desqueezed in post-production, giving filmmakers a wider finished image from a focused, 100mm view. The T2.1 maximum aperture gives you room to work in lower light and control depth of field, while the longer focal length suits carefully composed close-ups and details. This prime makes most sense on a planned production where focus and framing can be set with care, rather than fast, reactive filming. It uses a Canon EF mount, so it’s aimed at filmmakers working with that lens system and looking for an anamorphic look in a dedicated prime.

Specialist Note

If ordinary framing leaves your close-ups feeling too open, this 100mm prime gives you a tighter view without asking the lens to do everything at once. I’d use it for a dialogue close-up or a filmed detail, then take time to set focus deliberately: manual focus is well suited to a planned pull, but it does ask for an operator who can manage focus rather than rely on autofocus. T2.1 is useful when the scene is dimmer or when you want to separate a subject from the background. On a Canon APS-C body, the 100mm framing is equivalent to 160mm on full frame, so allow space between camera and subject. It rewards a controlled setup more than run-and-gun work.
