For cinematic video with an anamorphic frame, the DZOFILM Pavo 2X Anamorphic Prime 55mm T2.1-BLUE Coating is a manual-focus interchangeable lens with a Canon EF mount. Its 55mm focal length gives filmmakers a considered view for scenes centred on a person, a conversation or a composed location shot. The T2.1 maximum aperture gives you room to work when available light is limited, while leaving exposure choices in your hands. As a 2X anamorphic prime, it’s intended for filmmakers shaping a widescreen image at capture rather than creating that presentation with a crop later. I’d look at it for narrative work, music videos and other controlled video setups where the operator can take time with focus. It’s a specialist lens, not an autofocus solution for fast, unattended shooting.

Specialist Note

The Pavo 2X puts anamorphic capture at the centre of a 55mm setup, rather than asking a spherical lens and a crop to suggest that look later. For a dialogue scene, I’d use the 55mm view to keep attention on the speaker while still showing some of the setting. Its T2.1 maximum aperture gives you more room to work with available light and can help separate a subject from a busy background. Manual focus suits a planned setup where someone can watch focus through the shot; it’s less suited to solo run-and-gun filming. If autofocus is important to your work, this isn’t the lens I’d choose.
