Formatt Hitech Firecrest 49mm Superslim UV IR Cut
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 49mm Superslim UV IR Cut | UV and IR filtration in a slim profile
Without a dedicated UV/IR-cut filter, you’re relying on the filtration already in the optical path. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 49mm Superslim UV IR Cut gives you a separate filter for situations where you want to cut both ultraviolet and infrared light. It’s aimed at photographers who need that specific kind of filtration and have a lens with a 49mm filter thread. The Superslim design keeps the filter profile thin, which is useful when you want to add filtration without choosing a deeper filter profile. This is a focused tool rather than an effects filter: its purpose is UV and IR cut, not adding colour or softening the scene. You can keep it on a compatible lens when that filtration is part of your setup, or fit it when you need that control for a particular shoot. The key is matching the 49mm size to your lens.
Specialist Note
This filter has a specific job, so it isn’t the one to buy if you want a colour effect or a general-purpose creative filter. Its appeal is the combination of UV/IR cut and a Superslim profile. If your lens has a 49mm filter thread, that size gives you a direct fit; the slim profile keeps the added filter depth down. I’d consider it for a setup where you deliberately want UV and infrared filtration in front of the lens, whether that’s for a planned shoot or as part of a consistent filter arrangement. Do check the thread size on the lens itself: 49mm is the filter size, not a universal fit.
