Formatt Hitech Firecrest Magnetic Circular Polariser 86mm | Control reflections and sky tone

Formatt Hitech Firecrest Magnetic Circular Polariser 86mm is an 86mm magnetic circular polariser for photographers who want to manage reflections and sky tone while shooting outdoors or through glass. It’s intended for use with an 86mm filter setup; the size gives you the filter diameter to match, while the magnetic format is designed to make fitting and removing the filter straightforward. A circular polariser is most useful when light reflects off water, foliage or windows, or when a blue sky looks pale beside clouds. Turn the filter while checking the viewfinder or screen to find the level of effect you want. The result depends on the light and your shooting angle, so this is a considered control rather than a fixed look. Choose it for scenes where reflections affect the image, rather than as a general-purpose protective filter.

Specialist Note

Photographers framing lakes, shopfronts or leafy scenes are the ones I’d point toward this 86mm Firecrest. The circular polariser lets you dial back reflected glare and bring more depth to a bright sky; rotate it while checking the image, since the effect changes with your angle to the light. Its magnetic fitting is handy when you want to remove the filter between shots instead of leaving it in place. I’d choose it for deliberate outdoor work, especially when reflections distract from what’s behind them. It won’t remove every reflection, and it’s a polariser rather than a UV or clear protection filter.
