Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 1.2 (4stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 67mm ND 1.2 (4stops) Filter | Four stops less light for creative exposure
The defining choice is a 67mm diameter: this filter is made for a lens that takes a 67mm filter, so you can reduce incoming light without changing lenses. Its ND 1.2 density cuts the exposure by four stops. That gives you more room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture when the available light would otherwise limit those settings. It suits landscape photographers who want movement in water or clouds, and anyone making photographs in bright conditions who needs more control over exposure. The practical benefit is straightforward: meter for your scene, fit the filter, then allow for the four-stop reduction when setting exposure. It’s a fixed-strength filter, so the amount of light reduction doesn’t change; the result depends on the exposure you choose and the movement or depth of field you want to show.
Specialist Note
Photographers framing waterfalls, rivers or cloud movement will get a clear, specific use from this Firecrest. The 67mm size makes it a match for a lens with a 67mm filter thread, so keep that diameter in mind when choosing which lens to use it with. ND 1.2 gives you four stops of light reduction: take your meter reading without the filter, then compensate by four stops after fitting it. That extra exposure time can turn moving water into a softer blur, while keeping your chosen framing. It also helps in bright light when you want a wider aperture. The honest limitation is that four stops is the one strength here, not an adjustable range.
