Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 67mm Neutral Density 2.4 (8 Stops)

Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 67mm Neutral Density 2.4 (8 Stops) | Make daylight work for long exposures

For a softer, flowing look in bright conditions, an 8-stop neutral density filter lets you use a much slower shutter speed without changing the scene’s lighting. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 67mm Neutral Density 2.4 (8 Stops) is a 67mm ND filter for photographers who want to blur moving water, soften passing clouds or keep motion in a frame when the available light would otherwise call for a faster exposure. Its ND 2.4 rating corresponds to an 8-stop reduction, giving you room to make that creative shutter-speed choice in daylight. It also suits situations where you want to keep a chosen aperture while reducing the light reaching the camera. The useful part is the control it gives you over movement: waves can become a smoother wash, while stationary parts of the scene remain defined. It’s a focused tool for deliberate exposure choices, rather than an everyday protective filter.

Choosing the effect

Decide what you want moving subjects to look like before setting your exposure. A slower shutter can blur water or clouds; a faster one keeps movement more distinct. The filter lets you make that choice in brighter light, but the effect depends on the shutter speed you select and how much movement is in the scene. For a landscape, a tripod can help keep the parts you want sharp steady while the moving elements blur. If you prefer to retain a faster shutter speed, the same light reduction can instead give you room to work with a wider aperture.
