Formatt Hitech Glass 100x100mm Supermist Clear 1/4
Formatt Hitech Glass 100x100mm Supermist Clear 1/4 | Gentle highlight diffusion
Formatt Hitech Glass 100x100mm Supermist Clear 1/4 is a square glass filter with a 1/4-strength Supermist effect, for photographers who want to soften the rendering of bright highlights. It suits portrait, fashion and atmospheric still-life work where a little glow around bright areas is part of the look. The Supermist treatment can give point lights and reflections a gentle bloom, so it’s especially relevant when those highlights would otherwise feel stark against a darker scene. The effect is present in the image as you make it, rather than being a change to colour or framing. Its 100x100mm format is a square size to plan for in your filter workflow, while the glass construction gives you a solid filter surface to keep clean and handle with care. This is a specialised creative filter, not a general-purpose protection filter: its value is in shaping the character of light. If you prefer crisp, untouched highlights, this won’t be the look you’re after.
Specialist Note
In a window-lit portrait, a strip of sun catches the subject’s hair and the background falls away; that’s the kind of scene where this Supermist filter has a clear purpose. I’d consider it for portraits or night scenes with bright lamps in frame, using the 1/4 grade when you want a visible but restrained softening rather than a heavy, hazy look. The 100x100mm square format makes the filter’s physical size easy to plan around in a square-filter setup, and the glass surface rewards careful handling and cleaning. One honest point: the effect depends on having bright highlights to work with; in evenly lit scenes, there may be little bloom to notice.
