H&Y K-Series ND1000 + CPL 95mm Drop-In Filter
H&Y K-Series ND1000 + CPL 95mm Drop-In Filter | Long exposures and polarisation
Bright daylight can make a long exposure difficult, while reflections on water or glass can distract from the scene. This H&Y K-Series drop-in filter brings ND1000 and CPL functions together in a 95mm format. The ND1000 reduces the light reaching the camera, letting you use a slower shutter speed in bright conditions; the CPL element can reduce reflections and glare on suitable surfaces. It’s aimed at photographers using an H&Y K-Series filter setup who want to make long-exposure images and manage reflections with this combined filter. Its strongest use is a scene where both effects are useful, such as smoothing the appearance of moving water while cutting down reflections from its surface. The ND1000 is a strong, fixed-density option, rather than a small exposure adjustment. That makes it more suited to deliberate slow-shutter work than to subtle changes in shutter speed.
Specialist Note
At a bright stream or shoreline, I’d reach for the ND1000 when I want movement in the water to read as a soft blur rather than a frozen splash. Its 1,000× light reduction is about 10 stops, so it gives you room to lengthen the shutter time in daylight. The CPL element is useful when reflections are getting in the way; it can reduce glare from the water, depending on the scene and your angle. This suits landscape photographers working with the K-Series system who want both effects in one drop-in filter. One thing to bear in mind: ND1000 is a substantial, fixed reduction, so it’s not the filter I’d choose for fine exposure tweaks.
