Hahnemühle DFA Testpack - Glossy 21x29.7cm (A4)

Hahnemühle DFA Testpack - Glossy 21x29.7cm (A4) | Judge the finish on your own prints

The result you’re looking for is a print whose glossy finish suits the image, and this Hahnemühle DFA Testpack gives you a way to judge that for yourself. It’s a test pack of glossy printer paper in A4 size, so it makes sense when you want to assess the surface on a familiar, easy-to-handle sheet before settling on a paper for a particular kind of image. I’d use a photograph you know well rather than choosing from a screen: the print lets you consider the actual look of the surface and how it feels in your hands. Glossy finishes have a visible sheen, which can be part of the appeal, though reflections may matter in the place where you’ll display or handle the print. That’s the honest point of a test pack: the right finish depends on your image and your taste.

Getting a useful test

To make your judgement more meaningful, print the same image and keep your printing approach consistent while you assess the result. Look at the image in the light where you expect to view it, then move it slightly and notice how the surface catches that light. Check the areas that matter in your photograph: fine detail, smooth tones and darker parts can all affect whether the overall print feels right to you. A glossy sheet may look different under direct light than it does when viewed at an angle, so take a moment with it in both positions. There’s no universal answer here; a finish that suits one photograph may not be the one you’d choose for another. This pack is for making that decision by looking at a physical print, rather than guessing from a product name alone.
