Ilford MG4RC44M 17.8x24cm 25S + 6 Free Filters Grades 0-5
Ilford MG4RC44M 17.8x24cm 25S + 6 Free Filters Grades 0-5 | Make prints with adjustable contrast
Get a practical way to explore contrast in your black-and-white prints: this Ilford paper comes with filters marked from grade 0 to grade 5. It suits photographers making their own prints and wanting a choice of contrast grades in one set, rather than committing to a single grade of paper. The numbered filters give you a clear starting point when deciding how a print should look, from a softer interpretation to a stronger one. Use them to compare options as you work through a negative, or to make a considered change to the contrast of a print. The paper measures 17.8 x 24 cm, a print size that gives an image room to read clearly while keeping the finished sheet manageable. It’s a focused set for hands-on printing, where you can judge the result on paper and adjust your approach from there.
In the set
- Ilford MG4RC44M photographic paper
- Six contrast filters covering grades 0–5
- Paper size: 17.8 x 24 cm
Choosing a filter grade
The grade numbers give you a straightforward reference while comparing print contrast. If you’re refining a result, change the filter grade and assess the difference in the print; keeping the paper size constant makes those comparisons easier to read. The range in this set gives you six numbered options to work with.
Specialist Note
25 sheets gives you enough paper to work through a small group of images and make deliberate comparisons, rather than treating every print as a final. I’d use the grade filters when a negative needs a different contrast treatment: make a print, then try another grade and judge which rendering suits the image. The 17.8 x 24 cm format is a useful working size for finished prints as well as evaluating a result. This set will suit someone who wants to practise hands-on print decisions and learn what changing grades does. One limitation is the sheet count; for a long run of prints, you may need more paper.
