Meike MK 50mm T2.2 Micro 4/3-Mount | A focused prime for filmmaking

Without a dedicated prime, filmmakers often rely on a zoom and adjust the framing as they go. The Meike MK 50mm T2.2 is a manual-focus lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras, suited to video work where you want to set a composition and focus point deliberately. As a standard prime, it gives you one fixed view rather than a zoom range; you’ll move the camera or subject to change the framing. That approach can make shot planning feel more intentional, especially for interviews, controlled scenes and considered detail shots. Its T2.2 maximum aperture gives you room to open up when the light is limited. This lens is aimed at filmmakers who are comfortable focusing by hand and can allow time to compose each shot, rather than needing quick reframing during a take.

Specialist Note

At T2.2 on a controlled talking-head setup, I’d use this Meike to keep the subject prominent and make the most of the available light. On a Micro Four Thirds body, its 50mm focal length gives a full-frame-equivalent field of view of 100mm, so leave room to step back; that tighter view is useful for an interview, but can feel restrictive in a small room. I’d also consider it for a deliberate rack focus in a scene: set your marks, rehearse the manual pull, then roll. It suits patient, planned filmmaking. For fast handheld reframing, a fixed view and manual focus ask more of you.
