PolarPro Basecamp ND-4GR Soft Gradient Filter Grey
PolarPro Basecamp ND-4GR Soft Gradient Filter Grey | Balance bright skies
PolarPro Basecamp ND-4GR Soft Gradient Filter Grey is a grey ND filter with a soft gradient, made to reduce light gradually across part of the frame. It suits photographers working with scenes where the sky is much brighter than the land, and who want to manage that difference while composing in camera. The grey area helps hold back the brighter part of the scene, while the soft transition avoids a stark dividing line across the image. That makes it especially relevant for landscapes with a clear horizon, such as coastal views or open countryside. It’s also worth considering when you want to retain detail in a bright sky without making the foreground needlessly dark. Its purpose is specific: controlling uneven light across a scene, rather than reducing light uniformly over the whole frame. Careful placement matters, particularly when the horizon isn’t level or has an irregular outline.
Specialist Note
As you position the soft grey transition across the frame, it lets you control a brighter section without applying the same reduction everywhere. The “Soft” part of the name is useful when you’re working with a gradual horizon, while the ND-4GR designation identifies this particular filter in the Basecamp range. For a seascape, line the transition up with the horizon to temper the sky; over open fields, place it where the bright sky meets the land. I’d keep an eye on trees or buildings crossing that boundary, since the gradient can affect them too. This is a focused tool for uneven light, not an all-over ND filter.
