PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - 77mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - 77mm - McKinnon Series | Control light and reflections with one filter
Without a filter, you have to manage bright light through your camera settings alone; this PolarPro combines variable neutral-density control with polarizing filtration. The 2-5 range lets you reduce incoming light by adjusting the filter, while the polarizing function can help manage reflections on surfaces such as water or glass. It’s aimed at photographers and filmmakers who want to work with a 77mm lens and make these adjustments at the front of the lens rather than changing filters mid-shoot. That makes it particularly relevant for video in changing daylight, where you may want to keep your chosen exposure settings while reducing light, and for scenes where reflections distract from the subject. The range is deliberately specific: it covers 2 to 5 stops, not every possible level of light reduction.
Specialist Note
At 2 stops, I’d start with this filter when daylight is just a little too bright for the exposure I want, then turn it toward 5 stops if I need more reduction. That gives you a defined range to work within, rather than an open-ended adjustment. For video, set your preferred shutter speed first and use the filter to bring exposure down; for water or glass, turn it while watching how the reflected glare changes. The 77mm size is the detail to match to your lens. It suits someone who wants both kinds of control in one filter, but its 2-5-stop range won’t cover situations that call for a stronger cut.
