Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield (19/22)
Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield (19/22) | Help keep wind off your microphone
Wind across a microphone can make a recording hard to listen to, even when the voice or sound you wanted is clear. The Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield is a microphone accessory for situations where air movement may get in the way, such as recording speech or ambient sound outdoors. It gives you a dedicated windshield to consider when planning a recording setup, rather than relying on the microphone alone. The name includes two useful identifiers: 5cm and 19/22. Pay attention to the latter when matching this version to your microphone setup; the number is more useful than choosing by appearance. It suits audio makers who want to address wind as part of their recording preparation, from location interviews to outdoor sound capture. A windshield can help with wind-related recording problems, but it doesn’t control other sources of noise around you, so placement and surroundings still matter.
Specialist Note
For an outdoor voice recording, I’d make the 19/22 marking my first check against the microphone’s size information. Getting that match right is the practical step that helps you choose this particular Nimbus version, rather than guessing from its name. The 5cm identifier is also handy when you’re comparing versions: keep it with the product name in your notes so you can pick the same one again for a repeat setup. I’d consider it for interviews or gathering outdoor ambience where wind could reach the microphone. It’s a focused accessory, though; it can address wind, not traffic, nearby voices or other background sounds.
