Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield (24/25)
Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield (24/25) | Helps reduce wind noise on mic recordings
Radius 5cm Nimbus Windshield (24/25) is a microphone windshield, with “5cm” and “24/25” forming part of its product designation. It’s for people recording speech or other sound with a microphone who want a physical barrier between the mic and moving air. Wind can add unwanted noise to a recording, particularly outdoors, and a windshield is made to help address that problem. This makes the Nimbus relevant for interviews, spoken-word recording and location audio where a breeze might reach the microphone. Its name gives you two specific identifiers to keep in view when comparing microphone accessories: the 5cm reference and the 24/25 suffix. If you’re choosing a windshield for a particular microphone, treat those identifiers as part of the exact product name rather than assuming all windshields are interchangeable.
Specialist Note
At a breezy riverside interview, a gust reaches the microphone just as your guest starts speaking. That’s the sort of moment a windshield is there to help with: place the Radius Nimbus between the microphone and the moving air, then keep the mic aimed where the voice is coming from. The 5cm reference gives you a clear identifier when distinguishing this version in your accessory notes; the 24/25 suffix is another detail I’d keep with the name when selecting it. It suits people recording speech outdoors or near airflow. One practical point: a windshield can help with wind, but it won’t remove unrelated background sounds from a recording.
Using a microphone windshield
For an outdoor interview or a spoken recording near an open window, think about the direction the air is coming from as well as where the sound source is. A windshield can help shield the microphone from direct airflow, while careful mic positioning keeps the speaker’s voice at the centre of the recording. The Radius name and the 5cm and 24/25 identifiers make it easier to refer to this specific Nimbus option when discussing your microphone accessory setup. Keep the full product name handy if you’re comparing options, so the exact version remains clear.
