Rycote Cyclone Windjammer Large
Rycote Cyclone Windjammer Large | Added wind protection for Cyclone setups
Without a wind cover, even a clear spoken recording can pick up distracting noise from moving air. The Rycote Cyclone Windjammer Large is a windjammer made for use with the Rycote Cyclone system, adding an outer layer of wind protection when you’re recording outdoors or in exposed locations. It suits sound recordists and filmmakers who need cleaner dialogue for interviews, documentary work or location sound, especially when a breeze is making microphone placement difficult. The “Large” name identifies the size, so it’s important to match it to the intended Cyclone setup rather than assume it fits every microphone or windshield. This is a focused accessory: it addresses wind around the microphone, not echo in a room or noise from handling. If wind is the problem you’re trying to control, it gives your Cyclone rig a dedicated outer wind barrier without changing the purpose of the recording setup.
Specialist Note
Does the Rycote Cyclone Windjammer Large make sense for outdoor dialogue? Yes, if you’re already working with a Cyclone and need added protection from wind. The name tells you two useful things: it’s a windjammer, so its job is to help with wind noise, and it’s the Large version, so size matching matters. I’d consider it for a one-person interview or location dialogue where a gust could spoil an otherwise usable take; keep the microphone aimed carefully at the speaker and use the windjammer as added protection, not a substitute for thoughtful placement. It won’t remove room echo or handling noise, so it’s best when wind is the specific problem.
