Rycote Marantz PMD 661 Mini Windjammer
Rycote Marantz PMD 661 Mini Windjammer | Helps tame wind noise outdoors
A light breeze can put a distracting rush across a recording, especially when you’re capturing speech or ambient sound outside. The Rycote Marantz PMD 661 Mini Windjammer is a microphone accessory named for the Marantz PMD 661, intended to help reduce wind noise around the recorder’s microphone. It’s aimed at PMD 661 users who record outdoors and want a dedicated wind cover for their setup, rather than relying on a makeshift barrier. Its purpose is specific: give wind a less direct path to the microphone so gusts are less prominent in the recording. That can make spoken words easier to listen to when air movement is part of the location. It won’t remove every sound from a windy environment, but it addresses one common recording distraction without changing what you’re recording. The product is black, so it keeps a low-key appearance alongside the recorder.
Specialist Note
The black finish keeps this little accessory visually quiet on a Marantz PMD 661 setup, which is handy when you want the recording gear to draw less attention. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or for recording the sound of a place where a breeze might otherwise rumble across the microphone. The name tells you its role clearly: this is a Mini Windjammer made for the PMD 661, not a general-purpose recording accessory. Use it when moving air is the issue you’re trying to tame; it can help make wind less intrusive, but it won’t make a genuinely gusty location silent. For spoken recordings, choosing a sheltered position still helps.
