Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW4-DB
Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW4-DB | Help tame wind noise outdoors
Without a windjammer, a breeze can become a loud, distracting rumble in a microphone recording. The Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW4-DB is a microphone accessory for reducing that problem when recording outside. It’s relevant to location sound recordists, video makers and anyone capturing interviews or ambient sound where wind may reach the microphone. A windjammer is there to help keep the recording usable when the air isn’t still; it won’t remove every gust or replace sensible microphone placement. For an outdoor interview, keep the microphone close enough to the speaker for clear dialogue, then use the windjammer as an extra measure against wind noise. It can also be considered for recording outdoor ambience, where the aim is to retain the sound of the surroundings without letting wind rumble dominate. The model name is specific, so match NW4-DB to the microphone setup you intend to use before choosing it.
Specialist Note
The honest caveat is that a windjammer can’t make strong, direct wind disappear; it’s still worth choosing your microphone position carefully. The reason to consider this one is its specific Rycote Nano-Shield Windjammer NW4-DB designation, rather than treating wind protection as a one-size-fits-all purchase. I’d look at it for outdoor dialogue or location ambience, where wind rumble can distract from what you actually want to record. Keep the microphone aimed and positioned for the subject or sound source, and use the windjammer as part of that setup. If you’re matching accessories to a particular microphone, the NW4-DB model code is the detail to check against your recording kit.
