Rycote Stereo Duck Raincover AF
Rycote Stereo Duck Raincover AF | A raincover for stereo microphone setups
Without a dedicated raincover, a microphone can be left exposed when a recording has to continue outdoors in wet weather. The Rycote Stereo Duck Raincover AF is a microphone accessory for that situation, with its name identifying it as a raincover intended for stereo use. It’ll suit sound recordists who need to consider rain while planning an outdoor recording, rather than treating weather protection as an afterthought. Its most relevant job is simple: add a raincover to a stereo microphone setup. The name alone doesn’t tell us how it attaches, what microphones it fits or how much weather it can handle, so it’s best to choose it on the basis of the exact setup and conditions you have in mind. If you’re comparing microphone accessories, this is the specialised option to consider when rain protection for stereo recording is the requirement.
Specialist Note
On a two-channel stereo recording outdoors, I’d plan the raincover into the setup before the weather turns. “Stereo” is the useful clue in this product’s name: it points you towards a cover for stereo recording, not a general-purpose microphone accessory. “Raincover” makes its role clear, too; I’d consider it when rain protection is part of the recording plan, while still treating the microphone’s own weather limits as important. It’ll make most sense to someone recording stereo sound in locations where rain is a real possibility. I’d match it carefully to the particular microphone arrangement, since the name doesn’t identify a fit or attachment method.
