Rycote Stereo Windshield WS AE ORTF Kit
Rycote Stereo Windshield WS AE ORTF Kit | Help control wind noise in ORTF recordings
Without a windshield, even a light breeze can add unwanted noise to a stereo recording. The Rycote Stereo Windshield WS AE ORTF Kit is made for recording with an ORTF microphone arrangement, giving you a dedicated way to shield that setup from wind. It suits sound recordists and filmmakers who need stereo audio outdoors, whether they're capturing spoken voices or the character of a location. Its specific ORTF design is the point: this isn’t a general description of a windshield for every microphone layout. Use it when your recording plan calls for ORTF and wind could interfere with the sound. It can help keep that disturbance under control, though a windshield can’t make a very exposed, windy location quiet by itself. The finish is black.
For outdoor interviews, location ambience and other stereo recordings, keeping wind off the microphones can make the recorded sound easier to work with. Choose this kit when ORTF is the arrangement you intend to use; the name identifies its purpose clearly. If you use a different microphone arrangement, this ORTF-specific kit may not be the right match.
Specialist Note
For a two-microphone ORTF recording outdoors, this is the Rycote kit I’d consider when wind is likely to reach the microphones. The stereo designation matters because the kit is intended around a paired recording setup, while ORTF tells you the arrangement it’s made for; it isn’t a general-purpose answer for every mic layout. I’d use it for an outdoor interview or to capture stereo atmosphere, placing it on the recording setup before wind becomes a problem. The black finish is a discreet practical touch on location. One point to keep in mind: it’s specifically an ORTF kit, so choose it for that arrangement rather than assuming it suits another setup.
