The defining choice is the 1.33x anamorphic squeeze: it gives filmmakers a widescreen image shape, then a desqueeze step in post restores normal proportions. That makes this Sirui a considered option for narrative video, interviews and short films where you can plan framing and monitoring around an anamorphic workflow. It uses an MFT mount, so it’s designed for Micro Four Thirds camera bodies. This is the Neutral Flare version, aimed at filmmakers who want an anamorphic look without making coloured flare the visual centre of every shot. It works best when a scene benefits from deliberate composition and a cinematic horizontal frame. It’s less suited to a run-and-gun setup that depends on an instant, wide view of changing surroundings.

Specialist Note

Filmmakers building dialogue scenes, close inserts and composed two-shots will get the clearest use from this lens. Its 40mm focal length gives an 80mm-equivalent framing reference on MFT bodies, so allow room to position the camera and use it to isolate a face or detail. T1.8 gives you more exposure latitude in a dim interior; autofocus is useful when a subject shifts within the frame. I’d plan the desqueeze before judging the final composition. One honest limitation: the focal length won’t replace a genuinely wide lens when you need to show an entire location.
