SMDV BR 300 Beauty Dish White

SMDV BR 300 Beauty Dish White | A beauty-dish option for portrait lighting

Without a beauty dish, portrait lighting is often shaped with a softbox. The SMDV BR 300 Beauty Dish White gives you a different tool to consider when you want to work with a beauty dish instead. It’s for photographers building a portrait-lighting setup and choosing the character of the light they want to use. The name identifies the model as the BR 300 and the dish as white; it doesn’t tell you what the number refers to, so I wouldn’t read a size into it. That’s a small but practical point when you’re comparing gear. If you already have a particular setup in mind, the useful starting point is the product name and the white finish, rather than assumptions about dimensions or fit. It’s a straightforward option to look at if a beauty dish is the kind of modifier you want in your lighting work.

Choosing a beauty dish

A beauty dish is a distinct kind of light modifier, often considered for portrait work when a photographer wants to shape the lighting with something other than a softbox. This SMDV model is identified as white, which is a helpful part of the product’s name when you’re deciding what kind of dish to add to a setup. The choice of modifier affects the look you’re aiming to make, so it’s worth thinking about the role you want it to play before adding it to your kit. I’d treat the BR 300 as a specific beauty-dish option, not assume details from its model name. Renz can help you consider whether a beauty dish suits the way you like to light portraits.
