Sontronics Omni-BS Omni Capsule Black For STC-1
Sontronics Omni-BS Omni Capsule Black For STC-1 | Captures sound from around the microphone
When a recording needs to include the space around a microphone, a directional sound can leave voices or room ambience feeling cut off. The Sontronics Omni-BS is an omni capsule for the STC-1, giving you an option for recordings where sound from around the microphone matters. It suits STC-1 users who want to capture a group gathered around one microphone, or bring more of the surrounding room into a recording. That can be useful for a discussion, a small ensemble or room ambience, provided the room itself is part of the sound you want. An omni pickup also means less emphasis on separating the intended source from sounds around it, so the room and microphone position deserve some thought. The black finish keeps the capsule’s appearance understated on a microphone setup. Choose it for the pickup approach, not as a way to isolate a voice in a noisy space.
Specialist Note
An omni capsule won’t reject sounds from the sides or rear, so it’s not the answer when you need one voice isolated in a busy room. Its value is the opposite: the Omni-BS lets an STC-1 setup suit sound coming from around the microphone. For a conversation, place the microphone centrally among the speakers so the group shares its position; for room ambience, place it where the surrounding sound is the part you want to record. The product is specifically for the STC-1, which makes that pairing clear. I’d choose the black version when you want the capsule to keep a discreet look on the mic. Think about the room before you record, because the omni approach takes in more than just the main source.
